High resolution CCD imaging system

Project details
I was part of a small team developing this system. My primary responsibility
was prototype production and debugging. This system used a 4K by 4K CCD
image sensor chip to capture 16M pixel images into a PC. The CCD chips
where produced to our specs. All of the electronics for the CCD were our
own design. The system used a JPEG compression chip at the camera head
to reduce the data size. The compressed image was fed down a 250Mbit/s
fibre optic link to a ISA card in a PC. A local buffer was present on the
ISA card to reduce the IO loading on the PC. This project made extensive
use of Altera EPLDs.
